I’ve been doing Duolingo for over two weeks now every day. I don’t know if I’m any closer to speaking Spanish, but maybe? There’s a lot of things it seems to want me to just pick up through osmosis.
My favorite image editor for macOS, Acorn, just came out with a new version and is on sale right now for $19.99. That’s an insane deal. Definitely pick it up. #macOShttps://flyingmeat.com/acorn/
NetNewsWire for #macOS and #iOS is the least open-source-feeling open-source app I’ve used. The polish and stability it has feel absolutely premium, and honestly, it’s more polished than a lot of paid apps. iCloud sync has never let me down. If you want an RSS reader, I can’t recommend it more. https://netnewswire.com
I’m going to try ditching Amazon. Not just because Bezos sucks — which he does — but because I’d like to try and support other stores when I can, and because I don’t actually need to get everything right away.
Whoever wins the popular vote should win the election.
We all know Kamala Harris is going to win the popular vote, but are still shitting our pants because a few thousand votes in Michigan or Pennsylvania could lose her the election is fucking insane.
If it happens three times in 25 years, it’s no longer an outlier, it’s just how Republicans win now. Shouldn’t we all prefer they have to moderate their policies so they appeal to a majority of voters?

Media literacy should be a required class in high school, like English or math. I am fairly certain there is at least one class we are making kids take that is less valuable.
@thomasfuchs comparing them to crypto seems nuts to me. LLMs are useful for real things by many thousands of people right now, even if they aren't useful for everything people want them to be. Crypto has existed for like 15 years and has never been shown to be useful for much of anything.
Do I know anyone who does TDD in a pretty religious way? The benefits and reasons you would do TDD make sense to me abstractly, but figuring out the interfaces and whatnot without writing any code from the outside in is a little hard for me to get my my head around.
I was woken up today by a phone call letting me know that due purely to budgeting changes I’ve been let go from my full-time contracting position I just started in January after being laid off in September.
I am a former #Apple#engineer with 15 years of experience making apps for #iOS and #macOS. I also have experience with #Ruby. Available immediately for full time or contract work.
