damn dreamhost gives you quite a bit for a decent price. website, ssl certs, domain, email, easy installation of wordpress, unix shell/ssh, log file access, cgi, sftp, etc. seems like a nice way for less technical people to get into their own internet thing with their own domain:
good documentation isnt just about documenting everything, it's also equally important to make sure information is easily accessible and not frustrating to acquire. if someone has to click a million cross reference links, or the information isn't written in a format that allows people to "get in and out" and go along with your day, then you need to adjust something. basically, you want to reduce the amount of time that a reader needs to get information.
after asking how hard it is to implement browser alternatives for stuff like Firefox and stuff, and learning that it basically requires billions of dollars and hours.
i wonder how plausible a smaller alternative would be, like support for html, css (maybe a subset of it? dont know how much it's grown), and a subset of javascript
hmm trying to figure out if writing gameboy games or nes games is easier through research is probably a bad approach. just wanna write something that will run in a gameboy or nes emulator for fun lol
@technomancy oh yeah thats a handy thing that i forgot i did on tusky. it's like second nature to me haha. i *think* im fine without it now. we'll see lol. im also the kind of person that doesnt use any autocorrect/captialize/punctuation etc. and part-time uses swipe typing, so im a weirdo in that way haha
just uninstalled tusky after realizing that by uninstalling it and just using semaphore.social in my fennec, i can remove mastodon notifications from my phone notifications lol hell yeah
this is neat, without anything telling me that i have a new notification, it's kind of like old school email clients where you gotta fire it up and check for new emails, except the firing up bit is just selecting the notifications tab to see if there are any. i guess it stops that whole immediate "omg someone liked something i posted or sent me a message!"
i really miss how chinese characters looked really interesting, chinese sounded very exciting and new, and how weird the grammar read in my mind or when i spoke it. now it's all just really normal looking and sounding to me
it's a great milestone to run into in a language-learning journey, but i really miss how exciting and interesting everything was. i remember being so eager to be able to passively, as opposed to actively, listen and understand chinese, but its just a normal skill now (1/?)
(2/?) theres obviously tons and tons of words and domains of the chinese language i dont understand, and some conversations i just dont understand apart from grammar-constructing words, but it doesnt sound novel anymore, its just a handy skill.
my reading and writing have gotten much worse, while my speaking and listening have went through the roof, while before it was the opposite. well, i guess my reading is still fine, but my writing has deteriorates to shit because i just type chinese
(3/?) i can translate to my parents from chinese to english fine and vice versa to my in-laws which i guess is handy but it also used to be exciting and novel.
speaking to strangers ar restaurants, grocery stores, open houses, etc. is just something i normally do if the social setting is in chinese, but ill never stop getting annoyed at "oh you speak chinese wowww" factor, so i guess thats the only novel thing left
