Does anyone remember a post about a floppy disk data-recovery PLL algorithm on either here or birdsite? I wanna say it was by @whitequark but I'm not sure.
(I'm also interested in other algorithms folks might know, other than the naive binning/windowing method)

To stop this from happening again, I'm adding guard rails to my shell, in the form of a shell script I'm going to turn into a bash_profile function.

I've just managed to "zfs destroy" a very important dataset by trying to delete a snapshot.
This, irony of ironies, was while I was writing a backup script, which went awry. (it passed the dataset name without "@snapshot" to "zfs destroy")

IMHO, if "zpool/foo@bar" nukes a snapshot but "zpool/foo" or "foo@" nukes an entire dataset, that's a terrible user interface.

Ideally one set up to work with Readtape?
A friend has some 9-track tapes which are historically interesting and we'd like to try and recover them.
They have been hit by mould/mildew but we think they could be cleaned.

He rapped his knuckles gently on the door, read the sign saying "use the doorbell"... then wrote on the parcel:
"NO DOORBELL. NO CONSENT TO SPY CAMERA. MAGNA CARTA."

...seriously?!

I don't know whether it's being an engineer or being a sad old fart, but I've got a lot of respect for people who work in civil engineering with stuff this size.

@whitequark What kind of probes are you using for that? I've had trouble finding QFP probes which don't fall off.
