When it comes to science fiction, Raumpatrouille Orion is seriously underrated. Launched in 1966, it could never compete with big-budget productions like Star Trek, but it’s still amazing what they accomplished in that era. #startrek#scifi#tvshow#germany#retro
I don't think you think of Science Fiction often when thinking about Lars Von Trier. Yet, his 2011 masterpiece Melancholia is one of, if not the best, science fiction film(s) ever.
This already looks much better. There is no Chaos Destruction, I added better conditions and the stone can accumulate laser damage and show override material. Pieces can be picked up for crafting or destroyed, even by robot reactor overload. I love Unreal Engine. Am I a genius?
Here is an example of both my variants, near ones without Chaos - rocks with objects inside for crafting, far stones based on Chaos Destruction (I decided to use this in the game for glass objects, tiles, etc.)
Has anyone got any recommendations for something to read set in an optimistic future, perhaps something like #Solarpunk, without the heavily hammered down "messaging" and tokenisms usually prevalent in those settings?
I am quite sick of these quasi-ironic obvious fourth-wall "winks" at the reader that drive down the moral of the story in plain words every time. I would love some interesting stories that stand on their own.
Remember in Childhood’s End when the benevolent alien overlords’ only intercession in human affairs was to protect the white farmers in South Africa. Joining the war on apartheid on the side of apartheid lmfaoo thank you 1950s British sci fi author Arthur C. Clarke for taking us with you to the soaring heights of your humanistic imagination
I'm re-running my AI upscale of Star Trek Deep Space Nine to HD, and I'm just about finished with Season 2.
I check every episode before copying them to my library, and I'm noticing that almost every episode in Season 2 either starts with one of the runabouts flying across a star field, or some other ship, but mostly a runabout.
A bunch of episodes also start with Bashir and Garak. So much repetition. 😅
Folks it is about an hour until #MONSTERDON, the weekly monster movie watch party. If you don't want to see the toots, set up a filter!
If you want to join in, this week we're watching THE GORGON (1965)! It's on Tubi or downloadable from Archive.org over here: https://archive.org/details/the-gorgon
Robert A. Heinlein's #SciFi novella, 𝘐𝘧 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘎𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘖𝘯…, written in 1940 (also collected in 𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘵 𝘪𝘯 2100), is about an American theocratic society ruled by christian fundamentalist prophets, the first of whom becomes a dictator in 2016 (!!).
The good thing with dystopian fiction is that, in the end, you usually escape into a much better reality. The bad thing with dystopian reality is that it takes a huge effort to make it a refuge of better reality.
I guess now that this #Friendica instance is actually working, I'd better do an #introduction. I never did one when I created my #Mastodon account (at @gmc@chasmcity.net).
I'm not sure how I will use this Friendica account, since I also have the Mastodon account. We'll see. There's things I like about Friendica (especially how easy it is to follow threads) as well as Mastodon (especially how easy it is to filter and block to protect my #MentalHealth). I might set up some scripts to synchronise followers or some such, or maybe not and cultivate a different vibe on both accounts. Who knows.
