I've mostly encountered racist slurs from users on Nostr and a few Pleroma instances. I now realize the inherent moderation issues with Nostr. I had a feeling that nothing would happen if I reported the behavior. What I can't comprehend is why these individuals opt for Pleroma over other platforms. Why not Mastodon? I suppose this is why many people steer clear of Pleroma.
People of the #fediverse, I am going to setup a new personal instance server for just myself and a small group of folks. Are we still happy with #mastodon or is #pleroma best suited? I have experience with Mastodon and know what that is like, not sure of Pleroma.
i have a question for all the users of this instance. so please hear me out and answer if you'd like to.
would you rather... have a mastodon or an account on any fediverse service and post from there?? or!! have your own website and post stuff from there. i know you can do both but.. if you only had one choice... well. what would it be?? thank you!! #fediverse#mastodon#pleroma#akkoma
@Expert Plus 🍀 The only 3 social media that are currently surviving as Twitter alternatives are Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads. GNU social? Pleroma? Akkoma? Misskey? Firefish? Iceshrimp? Sharkey? Catodon? Meisskey? Tanukey? Just to name a few?
They're all part of the Fediverse. They're all connected to Mastodon. And they're micro-blogging projects, just like Mastodon.
Mastodon is not the Fediverse. The Fediverse is not only Mastodon.
> Ditto is a Nostr community server. It has a built-in Nostr relay, a web UI, and it implements Mastodon's REST API.
> Since Ditto implements the Mastodon API, it can work with any Mastodon app!
> Users of Mastodon and Pleroma will be happy to see search functionality that actually works. 😂
> Ditto is built in Deno with TypeScript. It's basically a REST API with a built-in Nostr relay. This is the same design as Mastodon and Pleroma, replacing ActivityPub with Nostr.
Nostr is a mycelium network. It is similar to the #Fediverse and #ATmosphere mycelium networks.
If the friendly name of #ActivityPub is the fediverse; and the friendly name of #ATproto is ATmosphere; Nostr is Nostr.
Although I started calling it #Nostrich since that's what comes to my mind and the fan logo (there's no official logo) looks like one. ^_~
Anyway, check out Ditto. A software and platform: 1. running on Nostr mycelium network; 2. with #Mastodon API implemented; 3. using the familiar Soapbox frontend design (that is also available for Mastodon and #Pleroma backends).
I've written a bit of an extensive guide on navigating ActivityPub and its many apps, and instances, along with some initial questions new users might have, and links to mobile apps.
