    I think I like my #Orange_Pi 5 better. We’re past the point where just having the #Raspberry_Pi name was good enough. I’m also looking at a #Banana_Pi model with 4GiB of RAM, mostly as an equivalent of the RPi 4.

    As you may know, there has been a long shortage of #RPi boards, enabling other #SBCs to proliferate. Also, there was an issue where they hired a former surveillance cop, then mishandled their response to the community that was justifiably concerned about it.

    Speaking of #crystal-lang, it requires an already existing installation to compile itself, so that is not going on the #Orange_Pi. As far as I can see, there’s not a public release in AArch64 elf format to use for compilation.

    #Armbian on the #Orange_Pi 5 ... in order to minimize wear on flash storage devices, /var/log is mapped to a 50MiB chunk of zram. I'm finding that logrotate isn't clearing things out quickly enough, so anything that logs gets 'no space left on device' errors. That includes apt/dpkg.

    I wish more !RasPi type SBCs were available locally. I had an idea for running an #MQTT broker / server https://mqtt.org/software/ , but it took so long to get a #Raspberry_Pi Zero Two and an #Orange_Pi Zero Two that I've forgotten why I bought them. (More than a month for the RasPi.)

    @lnxw48a1 that is absolutely crazy! I hadn't heard of #Orange_Pi before your post, and since reading it spent my whole morning going down a rabbit whole. I'm blaming you when my boss asks why I'm not done with my project ;-)

    My #Orange_Pi 5 has 16G of RAM, which is as much as both of my laptops put together. I haven't put it through any paces yet, but the resource monitor says it isn't even breaking a sweat yet.

    @geniusmusing The review sounds very good. I think I should add Orange Pi 5 to my "try this" list. I bought an #Orange_Pi 0, but it tends to overheat, so its utility is limited.

    Now this looks pretty cool! I have never heard of the Orange Pi before! I have noticed that Raspberry pi’s are quite expensive now and I found this! It seems to be Chinas alternative which is pretty cool as I liked some of the projects with it. #raspberrypi #linux #computing #orangepi #android
