It's been 6 months since Meta laid out their plan for "end of the year full federation".

It's wild to me that, in that same timeframe, a solo third party dev was able to get BlueSky pretty much fully federated before Threads could. Bridgy Fed dev doesn't even work for Bluesky or Threads and he managed to bridge Fediverse AND threads to BlueSky.

I feel embarrassed FOR Meta at this point. What the hell is taking them so long?

An Interesting discovery about #Threads: If I repost something on my Threads account (which is @darnell@threads.net for those wondering) & the other Threads account I reposted has not joined the #Fediverse, then it does not show up on my #Mastodon / #Misskey feed.

#Meta is probably doing this out of privacy concerns, but it is frustrating as numerous news organizations are using Threads but have yet to activate #ActivityPub on their accounts (at least those who have the option available).

So Meta is claiming a legitimate interest in feeding their users‘ content into their LLM?
If I still had a Meta account I‘d demand their assessment in which they‘d have to show that their interest outweighs the rights of their users. I’d love to see how much empty legalese they are able to produce. 🤔
It couldn’t be any more obvious that Meta doesn’t care about their users‘ privacy. Companies, governments, and politicians should stop supporting them!

Another reference point: I posted this photo 24hr ago. Again, 13K+ followers.

I am a slave to #Instagram's horrible, skewed 100% to #Meta algorithm. If I don't post to IG, then companies, manufacturers, vendors etc go "what's wrong with you, why don't people like you on Instagram?" It's a 20 edged sword, with all the edges pointing my direction.

I really, really hate #Instagram and #Meta. I feel **absolutely forced** to use it, based on what I do, and where a segment of the specialty coffee community is. Everytime I use it, I feel dirty.

I have 13K followers there. Yet, when I post things, the algorithm BURIES them. For example, I posed this attractive photo of the Hario Suiren there 1hr ago. Here's what the numbers are. Remember, 13K followers:

Now any public #Threads account (from #USA / #Canada / #Japan ?) can decide to show up / post in the Fediverse.

I do not have an issue with ads, but #Meta needs to provide a premium ad free option.

How can I federate from or subscribe to #instagram?

No one around here has any sympathy for Zuck or #Meta. The reality is that some public life happens on these platforms. Organisations from small local clubs to large NGOs post updates on Insta. This makes sense because Instagram is on their followers' phones. I'm all for convincing national and global NGOs to embrace Mastodon and RSS, but smaller volunteer groups will work on one platform, and not every group will choose the #Fediverse.

So what? Can #Threads be a gateway? Are there instagram scrapers or bridges? Is there an API?

Most of the #Fediverse was against federation with #Meta, but I would give it a try if I can follow individual accounts.
