I like how Apple needs to harass me into upgrading macOS now. I was a super fan, like I used to order the OS X upgrade disk and then carefully keep It after I was done. I pirated the OS X beta back in the day. I used to buy @siracusa OS X reviews on Kindle so I could really sit back and absorb every detail.
Now I dread MacOS upgrades so much I will wait until they have dropped my current OS from security updates before I git the big red button. Every time I seem to pick up some new strange behavior and lose something that used to work. Somehow we even broke Preview where it seems to close the file when I minimize it to the Dock roughly 50% of the time.
My needs are so basic. I work primarily off a web browser, terminal, email client and container management system. Even then I hit weird edge cases. I cannot imagine if I was a MacOS super user how frustrating this inconsistent yearly release cycle would be. #apple #mac #macos
yes.
To all of you that are joining us at @Vivaldi , I would like to welcome you.
We know that many are looking for options away from Big Tech and we are happy many of you are choosing us.
We have been building browsers for a long time now. Many of us were at Opera. I co-founded Opera in 1995.
As Opera drifted in a bad direction, I co-founded Vivaldi to provide a real alternative to Big Tech and I believe we can play a very important role moving forward. Thanks for your support!

🐈⬛ Tired of plain old cat command (`cat filename`)? Want beautiful syntax highlighting and Git integration in your terminal? Try `bat filename` on your #Linux, #macOS, or #Unix system! You'll wonder how you ever lived without it. See https://www.cyberciti.biz/open-source/bat-linux-command-a-cat-clone-with-written-in-rust/ for more info.

Since I'm still a fan of @fastmail's JMAP, I think it’s cool to mention that someone made a pretty good JMAP Mail app.

Did you know? The largest package repository for Unix-like systems (Linux, macOS {certified Unix}, *BSD and friends packages) award goes to Nix, AUR (Arch & co), Debian & co, and FreeBSD. Here is the ranking. https://repology.org/
One of the many features we have in @Vivaldi is the Calendar.
We had some important requirements when we made it:
1. Flexibility in display. So many calendars cut a lot of information. We want everything you want to be visible to be visible.
2. Inline editing option. Means you can see everything else while adding or editing an event.
3. Easy to use with the keyboard.
4. Both offline and online accounts. Means you can choose whether events are stored in the cloud or just locally on your computer.
If you have not tried it, give it a try. Available on Windows, Mac and Linux.
Bonus : Makes it easier to move away from Big Tech.
You have to pay me pretty well to use Mac OS or Windows… and that is what my new employer is doing, so I have started using Mac OS as a daily driver again for the first time in over 15 years. For the most part I have been quite disappointed with how things have changed in that time.
But, I just discovered one little detail in the Mac OS “Text Edit“ application that made my day: it has a few of the Emacs key bindings built-in. You can do Control-N,P,F,B to move the cursor around, Option-Control-F,B to jump around words, and Control-Y to paste text. (Unfortunately, Control-W does not copy text.) I am sure there are a few others, I haven’t bothered to check yet.
Well done, Mac OS engineers.
Little-known #macOS Finder trick:
You can right-click rename multiple files and e.g. replace parts of the names with other text, or even do more complex changes.

Note: if you want to avoid above-mentioned case sensitivity issues with the rest of your team on Node.js projects if you’re on macOS (the extension quirk appears to be a Node quirk), add this to your jsconfig.json (or TypeScript configuration file if, for some reason, you love having a build process):

If you are looking to move away from your Big Tech browser, maybe it is time to give Vivaldi a try?
A few things worth mentioning:
1. Workspaces and tab stacks.
2. Tab tiles.
3. Vivaldi Social, Mastodon server.
4. Encrypted sync.
5. Built in tracker and ad blocker.
6. No crypto built in.
7. No AI built in.
Vivaldi is made in Norway and Iceland and our servers are hosted in Iceland.

The Fediverse is unique.
I asked you whether you had switched from Big Tech. This is what you answered.
69% Switched a long time ago.
13% Just switched.
15% Are about to switch.
3% Do not want to switch and love Big Tech.
I guess this makes sense. You are here.
Now, please help you friends and family switch. For their sake, but also for all of us. The world is better with them joining us.
Have a wonderful day!
