#KDE #plasma wants to make their desktop environment as good as Windows or even better; #GNOME has no respect for Windows and wants to make the best desktop they can.

As a result: Plasma is Windows but with a good kernel and community and no malware included, and GNOME is the best preconfigured experience available anywhere for any device.

Windows is the least user friendly option available today, why would you try to model your UX after it ...

PostmarketOS 24.06, based on Alpine Linux 3.20, introduces GNOME Shell on Mobile 46, KDE Plasma Mobile 6.0.5, Phosh 0.39, and Sxmo 1.16.3. It supports over 250 devices, and comes with an enhanced UI, and numerous kernel upgrades.

So, first issue, popovers (eg., drop-down menus, app menus, etc.) don’t work on GTK 4 apps (like System Settings in GNOME) on touchscreen devices. Three-year old bug: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/1523

I guess that means tablets are not currently supported under GNOME.

Going to see if KDE Plasma works on touchscreen Linux tablets.

Tengo una duda respecto a #kde #plasma5 en su version 5.27, y no se si solo a mi me ha pasado, pero konsole (y sin tener blur) me genera como una "raya" dentro de otras apps, esta puede ser estatica o parpadea, mi escalado es de 115% a 125% todo se ve enorme para mi, la duda; ¿Es un bug, se puede solucionar? Ocupo mucho la terminal y se me hace molesto. #GNUlinux #linux

@LilahTovMoon it’s like you had an “Epiphany” that we need a toolbelt for the internet, a “WebKit” of sorts. With that we could take a “Safari” to vanquish Google and be the “Konqueror”.

Here is my new GNU/Linux distribution guide about Debian KDE 12, the right GNU/Linux distribution for professional digital painting in 2024! Also about three major problems with GNU/Linux distros that will drive away all professional artists, IMO, and how I got kicked out of the Fedora KDE ecosystem with F40, which imposed Plasma6 and Wayland. Omg #KDE is soooo good. If their design philosophy was a bit more #GNOME or Apple like, I would literally switch. But I love my Berlin Gnomies, so running both it is.

Btw, I started to rework the Gnome pattern on openSUSE Tumbleweed in my free time and really reference #Aeon :D

My main problem with KDE is QT, because it’s so Cpp heavy and hard to integrate with other languages, unlike GTK. Maybe #XFCE could be interesting for me, now that they have a Wayland story and I learned about XApps 😼

@janvhs Can I ask which part of #KDE do you like the most, since you're still more into the #Gnome design?

I can personally recommend checking #Xfce, it's light on resources, very stable and overall "just works™". Plus, their mascot #Xue is the best.

#Bazzite 3.0 is now out, based on #Fedora 40.

Among all the patches we've shipped, my favorite is that HDR is now provided by the upstream AMD params and not based on Valve's patch set. Currently I'm working on making an EDID for the #SteamDeck OLED so HDR works under #KDE 6 as well.
