Also als Rückschritt.
The "New Outlook" demands that when adding your Gmail account, you also give Microsoft a copy of all your email, contacts, and calendar data.
The "Learn More" link confirms:
"Syncing your account to the Microsoft Cloud means that a copy of your email, calendar, and contacts will be synchronized between your email provider and Microsoft data centers."
WOW.
Good time to switch to @thunderbird, folks!
Attention: Your Email Has Been Hacked. 😈
It is a spooky month, and we feel like these days privacy violations sound scarier than ghosts.
Do you want to protect yourself from the evil? No magic circle or rituals, just a good old self-defence guide by @fsf to ensure your safety.
We never did a proper #introduction, did we? 😲
Hi Fediverse, we're Thunderbird, an #opensource #email client available for free on Linux, macOS and Windows. (And coming next year to Android. FINALLY, right?)
You can use Thunderbird for managing an unlimited number of mail accounts, calendars, newsgroup accounts, and RSS feeds. You can also chat using your @matrix account.
💙 LIKES: Open standards, privacy, freedom, customization.
🚫 DISLIKES: Proprietary code.
Nice to meet you 📩
Are today's next to useless spam filters a result of #enshittification ? Outlook's spam filters are especially bad, despite Microsofts market dominance. False positives are the norm, while obvious spam gets through. It didn't use to be so bad. I get that spammers probably target Outlook more and are getting better at fooling the filters, but that shouldn't lead to more false positives. #email
If you're a Thunderbird and Google Calendar user, you'll be happy to know the process of adding those cloud-based calendars has been greatly simplified in Mozilla's email client. #mozilla #thunderbird #email #google #calendar
🔒 macOS Sonoma + GPG Mail
Apple has dropped support for macOS Mail plugins, such as GPG Mail, in macOS Sonoma. If you rely on our OpenPGP integration for your daily work, please refrain from upgrading to macOS Sonoma at this time. As a replacement Apple introduced "Mail Extensions". For GPG Mail however, some very important functionality is still missing from the Mail Extensions API which will not be available before the first update of #macOS #Sonoma.

It looks like Gmail, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, etc, and their respective users are going to have to do quite a bit of paperwork if the Draft Telecom Bill is passed in its present form.
They'll all need licences and will have to identify their users thru verifiable ID.

About half of the Fediverse addresses typed by FediForum attendees into the session notes are missing the leading "@".
People typed in their very own Fediverse handles. And because they came to FediForum, it's very likely they are very well acquainted with the right syntax.
Pretty strong circumstantial evidence that most people won't be able to distinguish Fediverse handles from e-mail addresses.
I have long believed that they should be the same.
We're not done with Thunderbird Supernova!
As promised, we will continue to improve the UI and functionality of message threads and Cards view.
We outline the upcoming changes in our Thunderbird UX mailing list here: https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups/ux/Tdb49a4666565e68e-M4aba7d876e0ced9c8d66ca58
A mockup with developer comments is also available from the link.

:alert: Software startup Skiff.com falsely advertises it's email client as #OpenSource
I currently recommend avoiding using, and/or contributing to their products, until they fix their false advertising.
They are actually licensed under CC-BY-NC-SA (Non commercial, share-a-like), which is not an open source license (as commercial use allowed is a requirement for open source).
When confronted on Github, the issue was shortly closed, saying that the libraries used for the apps are open source, and that they have no plan for allowing commercial use for their apps.
I pointed out that open source requires commercial use, and I got this reply from their CEO:
"Commercial use is not a requirement for open source software. Study the MongoDB case."
Didn't know that MongoDB is open source. Because it's not. It's source-available, not open source.
Well, can't blame for users not checking this. Even It's FOSS News publication (https://news.itsfoss.com/skiff-mail-review/) got baited. Startups are using open source software's reputation, without contributing to the community (by using an proper license).
Issue: https://github.com/skiff-org/skiff-apps/issues/93

Okay this is getting ridiculous now. My own innocuous little domain email (which ironically years ago integrated with Gmail) is still wholesale blocked by every single #Gmail account I email, so within #ProtonMail I have to switch to an alias with a standard ProtonMail email address to get it through. Apart from constantly screaming into the void that people don't use #Google, does anyone have any ideas on sorting this so I can get my emails to go through? #email #emails #Proton #domain
At Thunderbird, we share values that guide our development and roadmap. Things like openness, customization, freedom, and privacy.
But it might be time to add another value to the list: the well-being of our users.
Read more about it here, and don't hesitate to add your voice to the conversation:
