Deride it if you like, but it's still exposing Americans to what their cities could look like, and it does seem to be slowly seeping into the American consciousness. Most of social media is shallow and vapid, so they might as well talk about trains and good infrastructure. Maybe more Americans should be jealous of other countries, if that would build support for any transportation method other than the car.
