I mean, the obvious answer to that is “our own integrity” — but that answer does not apply if they’re the ones we’re lying to. There’s a big difference between “there are no rules so now we can all be awful all the time” (which clearly is not what you said! just laying it out here) and “if they’ve thrown out the rules, we owe them nothing in return.”
