Sqlite is sometimes better for small databases. I keep my time in it. The table is simple, so no need for an extensive database. I dump the to csv and import it into QB for billing.
Also, if it needs to be online and if access is personal, gemini (which is kinda like a modern gopher server) can be easy to set up and use. About 5 lines in a config is all that's needed to get it up. I actually use gemini as a front end for my local gutenberg project files. It can search the index and open specific texts.
