mcc@jalcine You do probably want to use LuaJIT, performance is very good, support is widespread and the FFT functionality is lovely. The only downside is instead of targeting lua 5.4 it's targeting 5.1 with a subset of 5.4 features backported, which is a little weird but probably is never going to change.
