I only saw the first JJ Abrams Star Trek, but out of the earlier movies, the only one I enjoyed was Generations. All the rest felt like they betrayed the TV show (ST-TOS).
Admittedly, I am 100% not a Trekkie, but that's sort of the point. The TV show wasn't trying to cultivate obsessives, while the movies seem to cater to them.
The one JJA movie I saw went back to the original ideal of not cultivating obsessives. Generations felt like it partly ignored the cultists in favor of regular people who liked TOS or TNG. And that's why I liked those two movies and none of the others.
Now, I've never seen any of his other ST work, so that could have been a one-off. But in general, the Star Trek movies suck, and the sooner we admit this, the sooner Paramount can figure out how to make something Star Trek worth watching again.
