The sad thing with people expecting even more war in Europe is that everyone is gloomy and all they hope for is that we somehow get through unharmed. But as everybody is frightened and the status quo ante becomes the best conceivable future, no hope is left for a better one. This paralysis is life-threatening in its own way.
