@KatS @mjausson @SecurityWriter after 20 years with a company that only had one layoff, we got acquired by a bigger company and within weeks someone told me about layoff season. Yup, every holiday season!
I was a director, so my VP said "...expenses were up, give me two names from your group." I said, "I've never seen my group's expenses, let me look. I can probably eliminate a few hundred $k and save my people." "Nah, just give me the names."
Then we got "layoff speech training" - say there's been a re-org and your position has been eliminated (totally false), don't say you're sorry, don't say anything, hand it over to HR who will get them to sign the NDA.
Two years later, my new boss told me that my position had been eliminated. In the paperwork that they legally had to provide me, of the 100+ people that got cut that day, about 80% were over 50 years old. I don't equate it to ageism, it was high salaries.
