Automation.
So for instance, on twitter I ran a bot that replied to requests for statistical info on accounts. the replies included text and charts. The package I used for charts was intended to generate html that the browser rendered. But I wanted to render the charts as PNGs and tweet those back to the user.
I don't know what halcy wants to do, but I'm guessing it's to generate image files without manual intervention
