When the link is inside the app, developers have the control, when it's outside (another app), they no longer can control the behavior to catch them (since Android 12).
For instance, the Fedilab app looks at links when they are clicked to check if they are good candidates for being a fediverse link (message or profile).
If they are, the app will try to fetch the remote message.
This process avoids using a browser in most cases. If it fails, the action is delegated.
