For the record:
I have maintained my own mail server for decades. It is compliant with all standards including rDNS, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. It generates zero spam. I monitor hundreds of DNSBLs, I am rarely listed, and I get delisted promptly when I am.
Despite all this, emails my wife and I send out regularly get bounced by other email providers. Microsoft is the biggest but not the only culprit.
My point: thanks to consolidation, maintaining a private mail server is harder.
