I don't actually believe that is true. The system very heavily punishes greedy people. Imagine the fediverse, but it's a bunch of business owners.
I currently finance business purchases through a supplier and don't actually use a bank. Capitalism allows for choice and competition for consumers.
In reality the capitalism you "see on T.V" is a HYPER small portion of the market. 99.9% of all businesses in the US have less than 500 employees lol.
The problem we are experiencing, I think, is because of where profit incentives are. Right now, consumerism is bad because I am seeing really concerning trends. In lumber for example, commercial demand has forced the industry to grow trees faster and faster, leading to Lower quality wood.
Houses won't last 100 years anymore.
I think the current economy is moving faster and faster and things are thrown away quicker and quicker.
But, it is not "the system" of capitalism. It's people being dicks. lol
