in psychotherapy we'd never take such a guess, since it makes the patient defensive.

like if I said you seek positive reinforcement about your looks because you are a bit insecure, you might rightfully get annoyed at me.

and if I said the insecurity was unfounded because you are cute, you might rightfully get annoyed at me.

that's why psychotherapy is "oh, I see, and how do you think your pfp looks to others?"
