Interesting. Are they implying that China has similar corruption issues to Russia? Because I've always thought that China would execute someone for corruption, so it likely wasn't worth it for anyone to participate.
@clacke That stinks. While they probably worried about security, liability, and misuse (educational e-mail accounts sometimes qualify one for special access & prices), it still seems like a bad thing to say "I know we promised this, but we're changing our minds".
My last university didn't make any promise, but the e-mail account was still present for at least a couple of years. Then one time I decided to see whether it still existed and the answer was no. Since they hadn't made any promises and I wasn't using it anyway, it was not a big deal.
"Targets are everywhere." Bruce Schneier's short essay on the trust / vulnerability trade-off in global supply chains is a good explainer about one of those "magic bullet" things that most people gloss over.
I know they're doing it mostly because they want T-rump to win, but it is just not something I'd support.
When I lived in SoCal, I wanted California to split its electoral votes up as well. People think CA is a monolithic Democratic state, but a large number of its voters are either Republicans, 3rd parties, or "Decline to state" unafilliated voters.
Now that I live in SWMO, I want to see Missouri split its electoral votes up as well. Most of MO is solidly 'red', but Kansas City and St Louis metro areas are solidly 'blue'.
It is probably better to get the candidates consider your state an undecided battleground state, so they'll come out frequently and possibly hear what your residents' concerns are.
They shouldn't have waited until there were only around ten of them left. Back when there was over 100, they should have sought out a similar habitat and relocated a small number.
This "if the illegal fishing stops, they can survive" argument is flawed. Illegal fishing has killed about 98% of them so far. It isn't likely that the fisherpeople will stop illegally fishing for (also endangered) totoaba using methods that kill the porpoises as collateral damage.
#Mozilla plans to end hosting its presence in the #Fediverse and close its #Mastodon server later this year as it refocuses its efforts on #Firefox and #AI.
> "We've decided to end our investment in Mozilla.social to focus on our core – Firefox – and emerging products, including AI," said Kenya Friend-Daniel, Mozilla’s Director of Product Communications. "The Fediverse is growing rapidly, and while we will continue to participate, we simply believe we can have a bigger impact on tech, overall, by committing our people and investments to other areas."
Personally, I think Mozilla can vastly improve its reach by firing everyone in the bloated CxO suite (including the Chairperson) and hiring someone who will work for $100K or less in their place. Fewer bad decisions and less money wasted on overpaying top managers.
All banks stink, but the old bank stunk less. Plus, the new bank seems to farm most things out to 3rd parties, so even if I decide to sit through the 1.5 to 2.5 hour wait to speak with customer service, they apparently aren't bank employees.
As I understand it, he's a meteorology student. Probably about 21 years old.
I just feel like he's trying to hype things in order to generate more views and follows instead of sticking to giving us a hype-free view of what he sees.
I'd like to see him drop the hype, since he's probably hoping to get hired at some TV station at some point.
I have some in SoCal, but they've been unpowered for years because the outlets in my old bedroom had been wired incorrectly. They probably all need to be replaced anyway.
