@silverwizard I agree with the sentiment and I would refine the conclusion further: a very large problem in our current society is that people see computers as responsibility-proof people, not tools which design can be criticized.

1970s science-fiction author couldn’t know better because the technology in their books had to be entirely made-up. It is telling for me that we got to human likeness in chatbots way before we enacted any sort of global computing law that Isaac Asimov envisioned for robots.

One thing I like about the #Fediverse and the larger #DecentralizedSocialMedia space that private companies will never be able to fully replicate is how some people find their own calling inside this environment and share their work with others. Platform and client developers are obvious example of this, but specialized accounts like @FediTips (ran by @FediThing ) is regularly dispensing helpful meta information about the space even though there’s no material incentive for them to do so.

Thanks to them for their continued efforts to bring everybody who is ready to follow them up to speed with the latest and the little known!

@tek I loaded my old game and I figured out why I never interacted with the landed spaceship: it's 35 days march away from my starting location! Also the scenario I started with was "Lost Tribe" which has a penalty for research, and it makes spacefaring longer to attain.

Also much has changed since I last played, with the introduction of animal pens and the shelving improvement.

After 67 hours of play time and several more watching playthrough and tutorial videos of Oxygen Not Included (2019), I threw the towel again just before getting into space. Getting a near-sustainable base going was nerve-wracking enough, and I've sadly hit my cognitive limit regarding the planning involved in rocketry.

Despite this second abrupt ending, I'm still somewhat proud I finally managed to get to this stage of the game, but it did cost me pretty dearly IRL in terms of obsession-fueled late nights, and it confirmed to me that I'm definitely an implementor and not a designer.

@clacke I estimate my hit or miss ratio for seat cover dispensers so far is around 5% 😅

I don't personally need it but always feel bad for the people who do when I see one that's empty.
