I only started researching garment printing because I was mostly interested in finding industries that have been outsourced over time. From what I gather, scaling up production was what pushed industries overseas, so I figure they could be brought back into domestic production as one man super-autism hobbyist projects. Screen printing was something that I looked into initially, but material cost for keeping stock on shelves was too high for a process that wasn't very exciting to me, especially in an industry as saturated as fast fashion. Of the industries I've actually got an interest in, the only two that have stuck with me that could possibly pay for themselves in the long run are custom textiles and old school platen press processes. I've figured out all my budgetary constraints so far, but the biggest hurdle I'm having right now is figuring out the appropriate space to put it all.
