The problem is largely one of trying to treat everyone "equally" in a codifiable way. There is a certain amount of judgement that transcends this which must be punishable for society to work - but we are probably too late for that to be something that would be wielded correctly. Anti-discrimination law has gutted free association, and unprecedented levels of "law enforcement" exist now that enforce for their own existence to be justified in the next funding year instead of because there was a real crime and a real victim accusing them.
In a real society, a kiddie fiddler is executed by a mob and nobody is prosecuted because nobody is willing to complain that it happened. Because it's a net good and everyone knows what that looks like. Instead we have entrapment by feds against people who like gymnasts.
