BlueCry isn't federated. I don't understand why anyone would use it. The PDS servers don't talk to each other. It's the same slop you'd get anywhere else.

I host on Hetzner and it's popular because it can be very cheap. You're basically using old hardware. (One of my hosts is old server grade hardware and the other is an old gaming motherboard).

The biggest problem with fedi is the blocklists and censorship. My domain is instantly blocked by any moron who sets up a new server and blindly imports a block list. Nostr seems to be a better solution, but its userbase has fallen heavily.
