I think a lot about what I should be doing for my students to prepare them for the LLMs they’re going to encounter. “You must use the tool” is not a thought that crosses my mind. I’ve had them study and critique the output to good effect on a few occasions. I make a point of nudging (or shoving) them to learn the alternatives (e.g. reading documentation instead of expecting GPT to magically answer questions), and trying to learn to be active and curious and not soak up the passive mode LLMs encourage.
I think I need to have them spend more time studying, understanding, and fixing code that’s wrong. •That• is going to be a useful skill.
