@silhelm The most laughable was a former roommate. I found her laptop left behind, and I contacted her to give it back. "It's too slow to do ANYTHING! You can keep it!"
I put Manjaro on and then used it as my work laptop. It runs fine. All it needed was a $15 SSD and some stickers.
I put new thermal paste on it for good measure (standard practice for me), but it was still doing ok on whatever paste it had.
