The dangers of radiation and radioactive material are hard to understand, because people suck at math and do not think of understanding things in a logarithmic/exponential way. It is better to treat radioactive material as super dangerous and will kill you in minutes than accidentally hurt yourself or die from exposure. The demon core situation illustrates this point pretty well IMO.
