Several years ago, we bought a grape vine that was on clearance.
It was labelled as "Champagne Grapes", but we bought because it was cheap, and the grapes on the label were very small, and very purple, so it looked like it would be a good contrast to the muscadine grapes that we already had.
We planted it, and the next year, when it fruited, we went out and grabbed a couple of the grapes.
They were very purple, but they didn't taste like champagne.
They tasted just like grape lollipops.
I didn't think the grape lollipop flavor could ever actually occur in nature.
The vine doesn't produce a lot of fruit - and not a single one ever makes it into the house. We just go out into the yard and stand next to the vine and pop little, purple lollipop grapes into our mouths.
