In my lifetime, I saw multiple cuts to white and blue collar incomes as the economy continued to outsource manufacturing, consolidated sales, and replaced relationships and quality with services and fee based contracts. For a while, you could be insulated from the worst effects if you worked in specific areas like parts of IT and healthcare. Now, it's coming for everyone, yet for the past 10-20 years, actual tradesmen have had higher real wealth than the people who "do things the right way" according to bourgeois strivers. If you don't get into a D1 or better school, your BA means very little in most places. Meanwhile people who joined a trade union out of highschool got paid to learn a trade, and most of them got solid jobs right away.
