@lain nobody buys a new car. my biodad says he cannot but new Mercedes, because they are worse than the ones he already has. he's buying old farm tractors and Unimog for forestry. he bought a 50 year old band saw because the modern ones perform worse.

it's like Asimov's Foundation when the empire collapses and people lose the ability to build stuff, clinging to the few remaining good things.
