There was a thread a few months back that showed were basically getting scammed. If you had invested the money that goes into ss in the most basic index fund avg 10% a year, you end up with a couple million. Vs. The ss payout over 20 years if you live long enough is $600k. You also get to pass on your remaining investment to family instead of ss just getting cut off.
