there was an actual study floating around on twitter and here, not too sure if that's recent or just recycled. I basically brought this up because psychology keeps finding out why all their studies have been crap and then they never mention it again.
There was a dude who did this with the rat labyrinth experiments, he tested sound dampening, residual smell, etc. Really elaborate and detailed, got a lot of praise for the study, and then everyone just went back to doing it the easy way because a properly controlled labyrinth was too much work.
