I came to the conclusion some time ago that "gender" simply doesn't exist. People are instead describing "personality" with a new word "gender". And indeed, your personality can be completely opposite of what you'd expect of someone based on their sex. You can have an extremely feminine personality while you look like the manliest of men. And your personality and various mental disorders can make dislike and feel uncomfortable with how your body looks. But nobody would sign off on dangerous and expensive medical procedures based on someone's personality. So "gender" came into the picture instead, to try to legitimize everything.
