Both the "right-wing" sides of the Russo-Ukrainian war are idiotic.
We mostly hear about the contradictions from the Russian side, and that's fair enough because they're the aggressor, they don't allow dissent and there are many of them.
But the far-right Ukrainians are also ridiculous.
1.) They claim the Russians are mystery meat Muslim Asiatic Mongolian for having non-Russians fighting alongside them, yet the Ukrainian side utilizes Chechen, Dagestani, Ingush and Tartar fighters (all Muslim and/or "Asiatic"). Regarding non-Muslim or non-Europeans, Ukraine utilizes Columbian volunteers and other Latin-Americans.
2.) They claim to be fighting against Russian Nazism, yet the ultra-right Ukrainians (and their European and even Russian allies) are Nazis themselves (some European ones basically "fled" to Ukraine to avoid prosecution in their own homelands), with the exact same Swastika/SS tattoos on them. They all use the same lingo online. Many of them are MAGA as well (which is ironic, given MAGA's tendency to support Russia), such as White Rex, the leader of the Russian Volunteer Corps. His Twitter feed could easily be mistaken for a MAGA feed. In this sense they feed directly into Russian propaganda efforts. They are "useful idiots" at best.
2.25) The Ukrainian SBU has contacts with many independent left-wing "AntiFascist" and "Anarchist" groups in Russia (NOT part of the Communist Party of Russia, which is effectively just another nationalist/revanchist party) and the occupied territories, and they are the ones providing coordinates for many of the strikes we have seen in the last few months. No Ukrainian ultranationalist or their supporters will aknowledge this because it doesn't align with their narrative that their war is against "leftist Communist Bolshevik imperialism".
2.5) Many Ukrainian ultranationalists are antisemitic in the same way the Russian and controlled-op Western MAGA/AfD etc... ultranationalists are. They are antisemitic Zionists who are Islamophobic, to put it plainly; they are "Western chauvinists". Also, the whole thing is very ironic, considering Israel behaves much like Serbia in international politics, even though Serbia is vilified as a pro-Russian stooge (anti-invasion, yet has not applied sanctions and maintains relatively strong ties with Russia).
3.) Both the Ukrainian and the Russian ultranationalists (and their supporters) utilize extremely incendiary homophobic rhetoric against each other. Both accuse each other of allowing/promoting "faggotry". Yet Ukraine is arguably more tolerant of sexual minorities than Russia is. That's just a fact. So, in a funny way, Ukrainian ultranationalists kinda want to be more like Russia (who they accuse of being "faggots" anyways). If you ask me, both groups of ultranationalists are repressing their sexuality, which is typical of "trad" "right-wing"ers.
Ukrainian "far-right" ultranationalists are actually HARMING Ukraine's cause. This war is not an ethnonationalist struggle against "Bolshevik Hordes" (no Ukrainian ultranationalist will ever tell you that the term "Bolshevik Horde" comes from White Russian Imperialist propaganda), but more akin to a liberationist independence struggle against imperialism. Why else have Azov et alii spent so much time and effort to distance themselves from the European "far-right" that 12 years ago they were playing friendly football matches with (including Russian ultranationalists)? They are following HTS's playbook from Syria. You don't gain "legitimacy" by becoming extreme racist Nazis with a narrow support-base. You gain legitimacy by appealing to all people.
Ironically, a left-wing lens is better at contextualizing the conflict than a right-wing lens. It dispells all the hypocrisy, dodging the "ethnic/race question" mire and just simply asks "who is the one being occupied and/or oppressed?". In that sense, the answer is obvious.
