    Diese Studie des Insurance Institute for Highway Safety untersucht die Auswirkungen unterschiedlicher Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzungen auf die Zahl der Verkehrstoten in den USA zwischen 1933 und 2013. Ihr Fazit: Es gibt eindeutig einen Trend zu höheren Todesraten, wenn Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzungen angehoben werden. Eine Erhöhung des Tempolimits um 5 mph (~8km/h) geht mit Steigerung der Todesrate um 8 Prozent auf Autobahnen und um 4 Prozent auf anderen Straßen einher:
