@roadriverrail@signs.codes there are some people who put their apple watch into an ipod like case as a "distraction free ipod-like" thing but if you have to use a phone to set it up you might as well just sell the watch and figure out better automatons for do not disturb and parental locks.
like my phone automatically turns on dnd if I'm driving and when I should be sleeping, so I only get texts from immediate family during those times.
I disable notifications, disable/uninstall apps, set battery saver to max for the apps that I don't trust to not be running all the time.
you can absolutely have your cake and eat it too if you're careful and intentional about your usage.
