honestly though, what's the point of a smart watch? you're already carrying your phone in your pocket most of the time you're just spending way too much just to have anxiety on your wrist as well as your pocket
@Jessica When smart watches started becoming a thing, I thought about getting one, but i really hate wristwatches and always have. In fact, I used to carry a pocket watch when I was a teen. So I thought that I might like a smart watch if it came as a pocket watch. Then I realized I had just described my phone, and felt dumb.
@roadriverrail@signs.codes what is a smartphone other than a pocket watch you could just turn on an always on display to only turn on when you touch the screen but most phones turn on automatically when you pick it up anyways so weh
@Jessica No argument from me. Regardless, I hate wristwatches. My last wristwatch was a Legend of Zelda game watch when I was 10 because it was a Legend of Zelda game in a watch and I was 10.
My electrolysis technician uses an Apple Watch, and I kinda see the point there. She spends almost all of her working day with her hands and face in close proximity and she's wearing gloves. It's a bit easier for her to keep an eye on messages or skip the music track while she works.
@roadriverrail@signs.codes there are some people who put their apple watch into an ipod like case as a "distraction free ipod-like" thing but if you have to use a phone to set it up you might as well just sell the watch and figure out better automatons for do not disturb and parental locks. like my phone automatically turns on dnd if I'm driving and when I should be sleeping, so I only get texts from immediate family during those times. I disable notifications, disable/uninstall apps, set battery saver to max for the apps that I don't trust to not be running all the time. you can absolutely have your cake and eat it too if you're careful and intentional about your usage.
