First is obiously Yasuke : I know the Western is focusing on his race, but the real issue is that whether or not Yasuke was a samurai is a sensitive and highly debated issue in Japanese historiography, not just because he was a foreigner, but because “conditions of samurai” has always been a very complex and sensitive topic, both historically and culturally.
