Mint cinnamon looks a bit like a dated Windows (so will look familar) and comes with a lot of stuff preinstalled such as Libre Office, Thunderbird so it just works out of the box. I have Garuda and a (gutted) Mint on the PC (I don’t like Cinnamon so I switched it to KDE. Just remember KDE is a bit of a buggy mess at times).
My laptop was running like a half dead potato and has since it upgraded from Win 8 so I run Garuda (fairly easy for Arch tbh) off an external SSD and it now goes like ? off a stick.
Hope this gives you some ideas ?
