I said once that Democrats believe the only consequences in politics should be electoral consequences. So if a corrupt politician or a fascist wins an election, even if it's rigged: "Oh, well, we have to work with them. Nothing can be done."
Which is very convenient for them, obviously, as so many are corrupt, if only in petty ways. But it has a corrosive effect on democracy and trust in government, especially when the only response is to whine: "But Republicans are worse!"
