I said once that Democrats believe the only consequences in politics should be electoral consequences. So if a corrupt politician or a fascist wins an election, even if it's rigged: "Oh, well, we have to work with them. Nothing can be done."
Which is very convenient for them, obviously, as so many are corrupt, if only in petty ways. But it has a corrosive effect on democracy and trust in government, especially when the only response is to whine: "But Republicans are worse!"

Every time Democrats are in a position to remove or prosecute someone for blatantly illegal shit, they intentionally whiff it.
Democrats want you to have the lowest possible expectations for them so they can go back to enjoying their government healthcare and insider trading and not have to do any real work.
