I went back to check on the bike just now. He had it all put together again and asked me to take it for a ride. I could feel it pulling to the right. And sure enough, the frame is twisted so that the steering tube isn't aligned with the seat tube. I might be able to fix that, but I don't know know for sure.

Blehhhh. It's not that it will break the bank for me to get another bike, but finding another bike is going to be such a major hassle
