> I don't even dislike the National Socialists,
I do (the state is a parasite, they want it to be a god), but aside from that, any group of humorless dicks gets what they deserve. :charliechaplinsmug:
> I just think the mythologizing of Hitler himself is bizarre.
You get that kind of thing with any big defeat like that, especially after a cult of personality forms. There are unironic Stalin fans. The Hitler cult was promulgated after his death by people that didn't get shot behind the Hague. The transcripts of the Ernst Zundel censorship trial are public, you can see the articles of faith were essentially the same in 1988, and Hitler-humping was one of them. I'll attach it; the background is that the Canadian government was censoring a Nazi that was passing out flyers, a losing position from the beginning, but they made it worse by letting him use "Let's interminably relitigate WW2" as a defense, and the result was predictable.
> Carl Jung said this was because he embraced Wotan, the spirit of the Germans. Fanciful, but some might suggest he just got a dopamine hit from the cheers of the crowds.
That's interesting. (I'm not sure that Jung would see a difference between these two statements.)
> The drawback of Dionysian power is that it lacks wisdom. It always sews the seeds of its own demise at its foundation, and Hitler, being a student of Nietzsche, somehow failed to understand that he was enacting the exact pattern described in his books.
I am moderately frustrated that you have managed to make a thread about Hitler interesting. I was all set to complain about how boring Hitler is, I had the rant nebula ready to start forming stars, but you have written interesting things (thus dispersing the cloud) so now I have to just discard all of those complaints and say "That's interesting."
