Basic security is quite decent, and it's rather easy for technologically challenged people to work out how to use on their own. #Telegram has become littered with spam lately, and the only way to block it is to pay for a subscription; file trasfers have gotten quite slow as well. While simple for many of us, #Matrix and #XMPP have too much logistical burden for most people to hassle with.
