> w at the end of a comment or sentence, or even by itself in Japanese is short for (笑)or 笑 which is the kanji for laugh or smile, and is pronounced わら "wara" and is used like “LOL” in English.
It's shorter to type out w instead of 笑 and can be used multiple times like: wwwwww (warawarawarawarawarawara)
Basically, it's the netspeak/online slang equivalent of "LOL" or "lololol" in English.
Since w strung together "wwww" looks a little bit like grass, it can also be pronounced as くさ "kusa" or even just use the kanji for grass 草 to represent the same idea of "lol" or "lmao"
