As far as interoperability goes it sucks, the only supported option is the API that requires the cloud-y service. It does not support self-hosting and everything else meant to interact with it (3rd party or not) would need patching.

The sanest layer remaining is directly interacting with its SQLite database and essentially reimplementing the rest from scratch.

That's my takeaway from trying to make Emacs work with it.
