When I lived in a rural village, the local shop was robbed late one Sunday evening. The perps thought that it would be quiet. But it was by the pub. The farmers and locals in the pub heard the noise and went out to investigate. They took photos, called the police and the car tyres were "accidentally" slashed.
As the thieves tried to get away, the police helicopter was able to follow them, including using heat seeking equipment when they fled on foot to hide in local sheds and barns.
Coming home on the bus I met a women who had an exciting night when the police woke her to tell her there was a man hiding in a bush in her garden.
